NATO’s Special Representative for the Southern Neighbourhood, Javier Colomina, visited Qatar from 19 to 21 October 2026, where he had meetings with Qatari officials and addressed the Global Security Forum.

Mr Colomina had discussions with Qatar’s Chief of Defence, Lieutenant General Jasim bin Mohammed Al-Mannai, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, and Advisor to the Prime Minister and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Dr. Majed Mohammed Al-Ansari. They focused on regional security developments, strengthening Qatar’s resilience through practical cooperation, and identifying ways to further enhance NATO-Qatar relations. Mr. Colomina welcomed the excellent cooperation between NATO and Qatar and reaffirmed NATO’s commitment to deepening the partnership.

He also addressed the “Global Security Forum” in Doha and stressed that NATO’s southern neighbourhood is integral to Euro-Atlantic security, highlighting the valuable knowledge, expertise and skills-set of our regional partners. Special Representative Colomina underlined the importance of strong partnerships in responding to an evolving security environment, and pointed out the ongoing work to implement the four NATO-ICI flagship projects on maritime security, countering Uncrewed Aerial Systems, defence against Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) threats, and countering terrorism – which were launched at the Summit of Allied leaders in Ankara, in July.

Qatar joined NATO’s Istanbul Cooperation Initiative in 2005.
