Colonel Elton BREGU is an infantry officer in Albanian Armed Forces. He was born in 1977 in Korça, Albania. He started his military career right after middle school, at the age of 14, with his admission to the Military High School in 1991. He joined Albanian Military Academy “Skënderbej” in 1995 and received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant of Infantry, after graduation in 1999.
He has held different positions throughout his military career to include Platoon Leader; Aid de Camp of the Chief of Albanian Armed Forces General Staff; Infantry Company Commander; Chief S2 and S3 Section in an Infantry Battalion; Training and Readiness Officer at Rapid Reaction Brigade HQ; Deputy Commander of 2nd Infantry Battalion of Land Forces Command; Staff Officer and Head of Planning Section in Defence Planning and Monitoring Directorate (J5), Commanding Officer of 2nd Infantry Battalion, Land Forces Command and Military Adviser to the Chief of the Albanian Armed Forces General Staff; Commandant of the Albanian Armed Forces NCO Academy; Head of Military Sciences Department at Albanian Armed Forces Academy, and Director of the J3/7 Directorate in the Albanian Armed Forces General Staff. Since July 2024, he is serving as Albania’s Deputy MILREP to NATO.
Colonel BREGU has completed several courses and qualifications, in Albania and abroad, to include Evaluator Training Course for OCC E&F Program in Sweden; UN Military Observer in Peace Support Operations’ Course in Turkey and Albania; Peace Support Operations Regional Junior Staff Officers Training in Albania; Fighting in Build-Up Areas (FIBUA) Course in Italy; Infantry Captains Career Course (ICCC) in Infantry School, Ft. Benning, GA, USA; Advanced Junior Staff Course in Albania; U.S. Army Command and General Staff Course (CGSC) in Ft. Leavenworth, KS, USA; Program on Advanced Security Studies, Leadership Course, in “George C. Marshall” Centre, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany; Developing Strategic Leaders Course with King’s College, London, in Montenegro; U.S. Army War College (USAWC), Carlisle, PA, USA.
He possesses English Language Proficiency skills at Level 3 (IAW NATO STANAG 6001) and basic skills for Italian and French language. Colonel BREGU holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree (for History and International Relations) and a Master’s Degree (Strategic Studies) from the USAWC. As for his operational experience, Colonel BREGU served in the International Stabilisation and Assistance Force (ISAF), in Kabul, Afghanistan in 2005-06, as Commander of the Albanian 7th Contingent.
Colonel BREGU is married and he is father of three children. He is a devoted sportsman, who loves soccer. His hobbies include traveling, going to movies and listening to music.
