Military Committee (MC)

The Military Committee (MC) is the senior military authority in NATO and the oldest permanent body in NATO after the North Atlantic Council, both having been formed only months after the Alliance came into being. It is the primary source of military advice to the North Atlantic Council and the Nuclear Planning Group, and gives direction to the two Strategic Commanders.

Chair of the NATO Military Committee visits Albania

On Wednesday 9th April, the Chair of the NATO Military Committee (CMC), Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, visited Albania and met with the highest political and military leadership. Admiral Cavo Dragone’s visit followed the 16th anniversary of the country joining the Alliance. He also delivered a lecture to the Defence Security College in Tirana.

NATO Military Committee visits Sweden

From 26 to 28 March, the NATO Military Committee visited the Island of Gotland and Luleå in Sweden, on an invitation by the Swedish Chief of Defence, General Michael Claesson. This was the first visit of the Military Committee to Sweden, since the country became the 32nd member of the NATO Alliance, in March 2024.

On 19 March, the NATO Defense College (NDC) conducted a Field Studies visit to NATO HQ, International Military Staff, providing a unique learning opportunity for the Senior Course (SC) and NATO Regional Cooperation Course (NRCC) participants. This visit, which is an integral part of the NDC curriculum, allows course members to engage with national, regional, and global decision-makers while gaining firsthand insights into security policies, armed forces, and cultural values.
