These core tasks serve to maintain peace and stability in the Euro-Atlantic region. Over the years, NATO has adapted its policies and strategies to reflect the new security reality and has included cyber and hybrid security under its work.

Work in this field varies. Careers in the defence and security area contribute to addressing the full spectrum of current and future challenges and threats from within the Transatlantic environment. These jobs support facilitating an Alliance-wide defence and security implementation. NATO jobs in this field are also responsible for providing high-quality analysis and advice on defence investment, policy and planning, resilience, and bolstering NATO's readiness, responsiveness and reinforcement.
