What is
NATO 2030?
In December 2019, NATO Leaders asked Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to lead a forward-looking reflection process to strengthen NATO.
In June 2020, the Secretary General laid out his priorities for NATO 2030: making sure NATO remains strong militarily, becomes even stronger politically and takes a more global approach.
To support the Secretary General’s work, NATO 2030 brought together Allied parliamentarians, civil society, public and private sector experts, and youth to provide fresh thinking on how to make NATO an even stronger Alliance.
At the 2021 NATO Summit in Brussels, NATO Leaders agreed the NATO 2030 agenda to strengthen the Alliance over the next decade and beyond. Read the NATO 2030 factsheet and the Brussels Summit Communiqué to learn more.

INDEPENDENT GROUP
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg appointed a group of 10 experts – five men and five women – to provide independent advice on NATO 2030.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg appointed 14 emerging leaders from across the Alliance as “NATO 2030 Young Leaders” to inform his recommendations for NATO 2030.

Civil Society & Private Sector Engagement
NATO has reached out to civil society, youth and the private sector for their input on NATO 2030, including through a series of NATO-Private Sector Dialogues held in cooperation with GLOBSEC.
These dialogues looked at how NATO-private sector relations should evolve as conflicts are increasingly defined by bytes and big data as much as by bullets and battleships.
In the course of six webinars, from November 2020 to April 2021, leading private sector representatives discussed the future of warfare, potential private sector contributions to Alliance security, sustainable defence innovation and climate change, geopolitical competition in the information landscape, the ethical deployment and governance of new technologies, and the security of critical infrastructure and supply chains.
