Statement by the NATO Secretary General
on the terrorist attack against Russian Aircraft

I condemn in the strongest possible terms the apparent act of barbaric terrorism perpetrated on Tuesday resulting in the crash of two Russian passenger aircraft, and the senseless loss of innocent lives.

I wish to extend my sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the Russian people and, in particular, to the families of the victims.

The Alliance strongly condemns terrorism in all its manifestations, whatever its motivations, and will fight it as long as necessary. Both NATO and the NATO-Russia Council will remain relentless in their response to this scourge and will continue to strengthen their individual and collective contributions to the international community'’s fight against terrorism.
