NATO Secretary General to visit the United States Opinions 29/01/2004 - NATO Speech by NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer at the National Defense University The Secretary General of NATO, Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, will make his first visit to the United States on Thursday 29 January and Friday 30 January 2004. On Thursday 29 January he will give a key-note speech at the National Defence University in Washington, DC. During his visit to Washington, the Secretary General will meet President Bush, with Vice President Cheney, with Secretary of State Powell, Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld and National Security Advisor Rice. In addition, Mr. de Hoop Scheffer will meet members of the US Senate Armed Service Committee and other government officials. He will attend a dinner hosted by the Atlantic Council of the United States. The Secretary General’s program is subject to change.
