Exchange Of Radiation Information
Exercise Intex 97
On 22nd March 1997, the NATO Group of Experts on Warning and Detection Systems will conduct its annual one day international exercise (INTEX) to test and evaluate agreed procedures for the international exchange of information on detection and monitoring of radiation and other hazards threatening the population.
This exercise will be conducted between warning and detection centres in Denmark, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal and parts of the United Kingdom.
In the context of Partnership for Peace, for the first time, a number of Partner Countries will participate in the INTEX 97 from their own national warning centres. These nations are Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Romania, Slovak Republic and Slovenia. In addition, observers from other NATO and Partner Countries have again accepted invitations to follow the exercise proceedings from the national warning and detection centres in Denmark, Luxembourg and Italy.
The ultimate aim of these exercises is to contribute to cooperation between national warning and detection systems thereby ensuring a reliable Europe-wide network for early warning of radioactive release, in case of a nuclear accident.
