PRESS RELEASE (93)53 26 AUGUST 1993

                        NATO SECRETARY GENERAL
                             TO MEET WITH
                   UNITED NATIONS SECRETARY-GENERAL

The Secretary General of NATO, Mr. Manfred Worner, will meet the
Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Boutros-Ghali, on
Wednesday, 1 september in Geneva. The meeting should be seen in the
context of the increasingly close co-operation between NATO and the
U.N. This will be the second meeting between the two Secretaries
General, the first having taken place in Brussels on 22 April last.
In their discussions, they will focus on prospects for a peaceful
settlement to the conflict in Bosnia-Herzegovina resulting from the
Geneva negotiations and on NATO's role in support of the United
Nations'
peace-keeping mission in the former Yugoslavia. They will also discuss
the development of closer links between NATO and the United Nations
following the decision in this respect that was taken by Alliance
Foreign Ministers at their meeting in Athens last June.
