General Peter Bartram

General Peter Bartram was born in Aarhus in 1961. He joined the Military Academy in 1981 and on completion in 1985, he was commissioned 1st Lieutenant. Peter Bartram was promoted to major in 1994 after which he served as a staff officer in the Defence Command, in Army Corps LANDJUT in Germany and as a Military Assistant to Commander Army Corps LANDJUT.

Later, being promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1999, Peter Bartram served as Chief Military Assistant at the headquarters of the Multinational Corps Northeast in Poland. Next, he returned to the Prince’s Life Regiment to fill the position as Commander of IV Mechanised Infantry Battalion.

From 2002 to 2003 Peter Bartram was deployed as Commanding officer of the Danish Battle group in KFOR, Kosovo, followed by a period as Chief Study & Doctrine Branch in the Army Operational Command. Promoted to colonel in 2005, he held the position of Assistant Chief of Staff Plans & Policy Division at the Army Operational Command, after which Peter Bartram was promoted Brigadier General and served as Commander 1 Brigade, Danish Division. Upon completion of approximately three years of service in the Danish Division, he got a new appointment as Assistant Chief of Staff at Strategic Allied Command Transformation in the USA, a position he held from 2010 to 2012.

On 20 March 2012 General Peter Bartram was appointed Chief of Defence Denmark and promoted to four-star general. Additionally, General Peter Bartram has been awarded several medals including Commander 1. class of the Order of Dannebrog, the Badge of Honour for Good Service in the Army, the Rescue Preparedness Medal, the French defence medal in Gold, the Polish Army Medal in Bronze and the NATO Medal, Kosovo.

General Peter Bartram lives in Copenhagen. He has a grown-up son. He enjoys playing golf and sailing.
