Carlos Miranda

Born in 1943, he joined the Spanish diplomatic service in 1969. He was posted to Embassies in Washington D.C. (1970-1975) and Algiers (1975-1977). After returning to Madrid he took up various positions in the Directorates for European Affairs and International Organisations.
In 1982 he became Director General for Latin America. In 1983 he moved to the Ministry of Defence as Special Adviser to the Minister. In 1986 he returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Director General for Security and Disarmament. From 1991 to 1996 he served as Ambassador of Spain to NATO. In 1996 he was posted back to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid as Inspector General.
From 2001 to July 2004, he was sent to Geneva as Ambassador-Delegate to the Conference on Disarmament. In 2004 he was appointed Ambassador of Spain in London, a position he held until August 2008 when he was again posted as Ambassador of Spain to NATO.
In 1973 he married the late Odette Suárez de Puga, who died in 1995, with whom he had two daughters. In 1999 he married Elena Meneses de Orozco, Marchioness of la Rambla, who also has two children.
