Major General Luc Vanbockryck

Luc Vanbockryck was born on 22nd February 1967. He graduated in 1990 from the Royal Military Academy in Brussels, Belgium, as Civil Construction Engineer.
He chose to serve in the Engineer Corps and was assigned to the 11th Engineer Battalion in Burcht where he was successively Platoon Leader in the Bridging and Demolition Company and Company Commander of the Construction Company. He participated as Technical Officer in missions abroad, first in charge of the construction of a temporary refugees center in Savudrija, Ex-Yugoslavia (Operation Winter Lodge), and later in charge of the Engineer Support to the Belgian Paratrooper Battalion in Kismayo, Somalia (Operation Restore Hope).
In 1993, he was transferred to the Infrastructure / Real Estate Services. In Bruges, he occupied the function of Architect and Structural Engineer, while completing on-the-job a two year internship at the Belgian Architects’ Association. Thereafter, he was assigned for technical management functions, in particular as Regional Head for the follow-up of construction works, and as Head of the Study Department for the Supervision of all regional infrastructure works. In 2003, he was appointed Assistant Director and Head of the Finance and Planning Bureau of the Infrastructure / Real Estate Services in Brussels.
In 2005, he succeeded in the Higher Staff Course and, after promotion to the rank of Major, he was appointed Director of the Infrastructure / Real Estate Services in Bruges.
In 2010, promoted Lieutenant Colonel, he returned to Brussels to fulfil functions at Staff level within the General Directorate of Material Resources. First, he was appointed Head of Infrastructure projects, in charge of identifying and supervising all infrastructure requirements, then Program Manager for major construction works. As of 2015, promoted Colonel, he was Commanding Officer and Head of the Infrastructure Department, thus fully responsible for the life-cycle management of all real estate (terrains, buildings, fixed equipment, deployable field infrastructure) of the Belgian Defence.
In 2019, he made a career switch to the field of geopolitics and international relations, being appointed Chief Strategic-Military International Officer, Deputy Belgian Military Representative to NATO.
Promoted Major General on 26 March 2023, he holds the function of Belgian Military Representative to the NATO Military Committee ad interim until summer. Selected by the NATO Military Committee, he takes up as of August 2023, the responsibilities of the NATO International Military Staff, Director of the Logistics and Resources Division.
Luc Vanbockryck is Commandeur in the Belgian Order of the Crown. He graduated (2017) as Auditor High Studies for Defence and Security from the Royal Higher Institute for Defence and the Royal Egmont Institute for International Relations, Brussels. He also graduated (2019) with honours from the Senior Course at the NATO Defense College, Rome. He is married to Ann and they live with their son in Tielt, Belgium.
