NATO Advanced Study Institute on ''Advanced Electronic Technologies and Systems Based on Low-dimensional Quantum Devices''

A NATO Advanced Study Institute on "Advanced Electronic Technologies and Systems based on Low-Dimensional Quantum Devices" will take place from 17-28 September, in Sozopol, Bulgaria.

Low-dimensional quantum devices are the building blocks for the electronic industry of the future. Quantum well lasers, field effect transistors and high-frequency oscillators based on low-dimensional semiconductor structures are now produced in millions. The ASI will seek to achieve a cross-fertilization between materials scientists, physicists, physical-chemists and electrical optical engineers by combining advanced level, tutorial-style overviews of the material and device options now available, and linking these to system application. The programme is structured in two basic domains:

Optoelectronic systems, Telecommunications and All Optical Computers Pseudomorphic HEMT (High Electron Mobility Transistors) Technology and System Application

Foremost authorities in the field of preparation of quantum structures, their characterisation and the investigation of their specific properties for industrial use will lecture at this ASI. They include experts from academic and industrial institutions such as the University of Lund (Sweden), Université Pierre et Marie Curie (France), Laboratoire Central de Recherches Thomson (France), IBM Research Laboratory, Yorktown Heights (United States), National Research Council, Ottawa (Canada), Ecole Supérieure de Physique et Chimie Industrielle, Paris, International Laser Center, Minsk (Belarus).

Twenty participants from eight NATO countries (Canada, France, Greece, Norway, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States) and fifty-nine participants from eight Cooperation Partner countries (Belarus, Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Slovak Republic, Tajikistan and Ukraine) will attend the ASI.
