Large rocket cache seized in Afghanistan

Acting on intelligence information, troops from the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), secured on 28 August a large cache of rockets hidden in Kabul.
Over 120 rockets, all in very good condition, had been hidden in the sand in the Dih Sabz district of Afghanistan’s capital city.
The rockets are stored now in a safe location and await destruction.
Securing the democratic process
The large find is an important contribution to the security of the upcoming provincial and parliamentary elections, which are scheduled for 18 September. The deadly arsenal is no longer available to groups that may desire to interrupt the democratic process.
NATO has deployed around 2,000 extra troops to Afghanistan in order to assist the country’s police and army in providing security for the poll.
The landmark ballot will see Afghans choosing from about 2,800 candidates standing for election to the lower chamber of Afghanistan’s national assembly, and electing officials to provincial councils.
