On 1 September, a contingent of thirty German soldiers took up their duties in the new NATO-led PRT in Faizabad in northern Afghanistan. In the coming months, the PRT will grow to about 85 soldiers in total.

In addition, a separate contingent of about 65 soldiers will arrive in Faizabad in the coming days as part of NATO's support for the presidential elections scheduled for October. This will be a temporary deployment.

Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRTs) are teams composed of international civilian and military personnel working to facilitate the development of a secure environment and reconstruction in Afghanistan's provinces.
