Estonian President visits NATO
Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves came to NATO Headquarters on 4 February. He met with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and with the North Atlantic Council.

Major topics covered in the discussion included the agenda for the upcoming Bucharest summit, NATO operations in Afghanistan and Kosovo, enlargement, relations between NATO and the European Union, energy security, missile defence, cyber defence and other new security challenges.
Highlighting an issue of special importance for Estonia, which was the victim of a major cyber attack in 2007, NATO Secretary General said: “Cyber defence is definitely an important element to be discussed at the Bucharest summit and afterwards.”
He urged nations to send their experts to the Centre of Excellence on Cyber Defence hosted by Estonia.
In a joint press conference with President Ilves, the NATO Secretary General also praised Estonia for its significant contribution to NATO missions and operations.
Estonia joined NATO on 29 March 2004.
