Thirty young Ukrainians – winners of the “Aliante 2007-Ukraine” competition – participated in a 10-day trip to four NATO countries: Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, and the Netherlands. During the group’s visit to Belgium, Ukraine’s Mission to NATO and NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division organized a visit to NATO Headquarters on 10 August.
The project “Aliante 2007-Ukraine” was a positive experience for the participants, who were high school and university students. The trip allowed them to witness political and international relations from the inside and to learn more about Ukraine’s role in international affairs. The trip also provided the young Ukrainians with a better understanding of the NATO-Ukraine partnership.
"Aliante 2007" was organized by the Youth Centre of the Atlantic Council of Ukraine. The competition involved writing an essay on NATO issues, a sports contest and a final written test.
The initiative was supported by the NATO-Ukraine Civic League, the NATO Information and Documentation Centre, Ukraine’s State Committee for Television and Radio, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Embassy of the Czech Republic and the Ministry of Defence TV programme "Terytorija bezpeky”.
