Military
Committee puts an end to tour
As soon as the violent terrorist attacks were perpetrated
against the United States, 11 September, the Military Committee
- NATO's highest military authority - put an end to a three-day
tour to Italy and Hungary, planned from 10 to 12 September.
The Military Representatives from NATO's 19 member countries,
chaired by Admiral Guido Venturoni, were supposed to exchange
information and views on the Balkans, the European Security
and Defence Identity and NATO's new Force Structure. They
immediately decided to return to Brussels as soon as the
tragic events had occurred. The two Strategic Commanders,
SACEUR General Joseph W. Ralston, and SACLANT General
William F. Kernan were also present.
